As far as I recall these iBooks have had accelerated graphics since
YDL4 or 4.1.  A guy I worked with had a slightly later iBook G4 when I
had a iBook G3 and I can recall when he got accelerated X11 working in
2004.  I also chased this up later when I had my iBook G3 stolen and
replaced it with a iBook G4 (1.33, late 2005) which had a even later
chipset which was not supported for accelerated 3D graphics until
YDL5.  I will append Stewart's xorg.conf (as xorg.conf.smworks) and my
current xorg.conf (ATI Technologies Inc M11 NV [FireGL Mobility T2e])
which may be of some use.
