<div class="article_title" >Retrans Tensions Continue ... Little Easing in Sight</div>
<div class="article" ><span style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline;"></span><br>Don't look for big changes from the <span style="font-weight: bold;">FCC</span>'s rulemaking on retransmission consent, say analysts <span style="font-style: italic;">Rebecca Arbogast</span> and <span style="font-style:
italic;">David Kaut</span> at <span style="font-weight: bold;">Stifel Nicolaus</span>. "We are skeptical the FCC will dramatically alter the balance of power between the two sides," they write, "but one change that could give multichannel distributors some new leverage would be if the FCC
eases restrictions on importing broadcast network signals from outside local markets -- an issue the agency might review." <br><br>Meanwhile, tension continues between <span style="font-weight: bold;">Sinclair Broadcast</span>, which operates 20 <span style="font-weight:
bold;">Fox</span> affiliates, and Fox which has explained its work-around deal with <span style="font-weight: bold;">Time Warner Cable</span> (ie you get the national signal if the local goes dark) by saying "Our goal is to protect Fox viewers from any service interruptions, allow our
affiliate partners to reap their local ad dollars and continue to negotiate a retransmission agreement without deadline pressure," Sinclair sees a few contradictions in that statement. <br><br>In related news, Fox News is reportedly seeking $1.25/subscriber/month for its
programming.• <P>

<div class="article_title" >SkyLog: Netflix, Hulu & Starz; Comcast's Labor Dispute; HNS' Nationwide Net</div>
<div class="article" ><span style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline;"><br>Strategies</span>: <span style="font-weight: bold;">Netflix</span>'s new deal with <span style="font-weight: bold;">Disney</span> is painting <span style="font-weight: bold;">Hulu</span> into a corner where the company must either
compete in buying distribution rights or drop the fee "and focus on free offerings," says the <span style="font-style: italic;">NY Post</span>, quoting industry sources. --- Meanwhile, Netflix is biting back against increased speculation over the $$$$ it will have to pay for a new deal with
<span style="font-weight: bold;">Liberty Media's</span> <span style="font-weight: bold;">Starz</span> as Netflix boss <span style="font-style: italic;">Reed Hastings</span> told the <span style="font-weight: bold;">Barclays Capital</span> Global Technology Conference no one piece of content is
essential to Netflix's future. But, he noted, "They have content. We have money, so unless we're idiots we ought to be able to find some way to make it work over the next couple years."<br> <br> <span style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline;"></span><span
style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline;">Programming</span>: <span style="font-weight: bold;">Comcast</span> programming nets are under the gun as the <span style="font-weight: bold;">Writers Guild of America, West</span> wants to organize writers on 10 different shows
airing on Comcast networks. The guild says more than 80% of the writers have signed authorization cards but Comcast won't come to the table. Says Comcast, the union's demands are "unfair to employees" and it wants an election. --- <span style="font-weight: bold;">USA</span> says
it's on the verge of a "an unprecedented 5 consecutive years" as the No. 1 cable net. --- <span style="font-weight: bold;">Verizon</span> has expanded its<span style="font-weight: bold;"> FiOS TV</span> Spanish language content by three: <span style="font-weight: bold;">Ritmoson Latino</span>,
<span style="font-weight: bold;">Bandamax</span> and <span style="font-weight: bold;">TyC Sports</span>.<br><br style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline;"><span style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline;">Markets & Money</span>: <span style="font-weight: bold;">The
Outdoor Channel</span> is making a one-time cash distribution of 25¢/share to shareholders of record at close of business on Dec. 20, 2010. <br><br><span style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline;">Up in the Sky</span>: <span style="font-weight: bold;">Hughes Network
Systems</span> says its portfolio of services can deliver a national managed broadband network encompassing any combination of voice, video, and data solutions for federal agencies and their field offices across the country" via both satellite and terrestrial services. <br><br><span
style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline;">People</span>: The <span style="font-weight: bold;">Fiber to the Home Council</span> has chosen three new board members. <span style="font-style: italic;">Kevin Bourg</span> of <span style="font-weight: bold;">Enablence
Systems</span>, <span style="font-style: italic;">Doug Dowling</span> of <span style="font-weight: bold;">Tyco Electronics</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">Kevin Morgan</span> of <span style="font-weight: bold;">ADTRAN</span> will all serve two year terms. --- <span
style="font-style: italic;">Neil Ashe</span> has left <span style="font-weight: bold;">CBS Interactive</span>; no word on a replacement. --- <span style="font-style: italic;">Jan Wareby</span> is new head of sales and marketing at <span style="font-weight: bold;">Ericsson</span>. --- <span
style="font-style: italic;">Anthony Rose</span> has stepped down from his CTO position at the UK's <span style="font-weight: bold;">YouView</span> project, which is slated for launch in mid-2011. -- <span style="font-style: italic;">Howard Stern</span>'s new contract with<span style="font-weight:
bold;"> Sirius XM </span>is said to be $100M poorer than his original one; still, Wall Street analysts say, he'll pull in $400M/year in cash. --- <span style="font-weight: bold;">Miramax</span> has selected former <span style="font-weight: bold;">News Corp</span>. exec <span style="font-style:
