Hi all,

Thank you to everyone who sent letters this week to Secretary Clinton and
Secretary Geithner. Their strong remarks about human rights during the US-China
dialogue is a welcomed indication that our efforts over the past four years are
making a difference. Read more here:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/05/09/joe-biden-hillary-clinton-china-human-rights_n_859413.html.
Let's keep pushing our government to stand firm on human rights and Tibet!

Please read below for two upcoming action opportunities:

1) Global Call-in Action for the Panchen Lama:

Tuesday, May 17th will mark 16 years since the the Panchen Lama's
disappearance. Gendhun Choekyi Nyima was just 6 years old in 1995 when Chinese
authorities abducted him and his family. He has not been seen since and his
current whereabouts are unkown.

For the last sixteen years, Tibetans, concerned people worldwide, and human
rights organizations have urged the Chinese government to allow the Panchen
Lama to return to his rightful place at Tashilumpo monastery in Tibet.

Thank you to everyone who took action on April 25, the Panchen Lama's 22nd
birthday and the launch of a campaign to demand China reveal his whereabouts.
This Tuesday, May 17, please take further action by calling the Chinese embassy
in Washington, DC at 202-495-2266 to ask, “Where is the Panchen Lama?”

You can download and print an outreach poster to display on your campus or in
your community:

2) Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) Launches Global Relay Hunger Strike

On Sunday, May 15th, TYC branches around the world will launch a relay hunger
strike to highlight the ongoing crisis in Ngaba, Tibet
(http://www.studentsforafreetibet.org/ngaba) Three members of TYC's leadership
have gone without food for 20 days in an effort to pressure the Chinese
government to stop the crackdown at Kirti monastery.

To support their efforts and to join the relay hunger strike, please contact
your local TYC branch. You can find contact information here:
