This is one area that I think could use improvement. If the user wanted
to see the time slip or any other system slip, they can just tap the
icon on the status bar. If however the user wants to launch that stock
ticker slip, they must exit the current UI app, launch the stock ticker
app, tell it to launch the background ticker, then return to the
previous app. I think there should be a more intuitive way. The command
bar is a good method, but currently to launch the command bar, the user
must open the DIA, do the stoke, then close the DIA, and I've seen many
users complain about that. It would be nice to have some sort of
dedicated quick launch list that could sub-launch an app and tell it to
launch its background process with a special launch code. Almost like
the dashboard feature of OS X Tiger. Tap a button on the status bar to
open a list of mini background apps to launch. An app could register to
be on this list with an API call. Also it would be nice to have the
ability to open the command bar perhaps by tap and hold, or tap and drag
up on the menu button.
Just an idea.
