Android you fool, iOS then, and now Mac OS have this kind of policy for notifications. Don't you think it would better for GNOME also to have one, rather than having the user forced to mind those annoying, screen space stealing bubbles before they disappear and leave him just more doubtful? It could be put in the activity view, as a sidebar, full or half height. Of course there should be an API to use it in third party applications.
