Hi Europa operators,

Being able to operate your aircraft under IMC is the best life insurance you can
have. If you entrance unforeseen IMC during your VFR flight it will safe your
day. Being able to fly safe under IMC needs only more skills and recurrent training
than many VFR pilots expect. Commercial pilots train at least 4 simulator
sessions a year to keep their licence valid. So once again, I agree that training
and practising IFR flying is a must. MS Flight simulator is a nice tool
to improve your instrument scan, but practising in your own aircraft is the
best way to get enough exposure to fly IFR, assuming your plane is IFR equipped.

But this story has also a other side. In the first place, if I have an engine failure
or cabin fire, I always want to be able to make a safe forced landing.
That means that I require at least VFR minima below the cloud layer I am flying
into or above. To be able to see what I am doing during my emergency landing,
daylight is a must. Remember Murphys Law, if it happens, it will happen at the
worst moment.
If I want to fly at night or in real IMC (to ground level), I only feel myself
safe in an IFR equipped twin aircraft. Than an engine may fail because Im still
able to make a single engine IFR approach.
I would like to encourage you all to improve your skills and at the same time to
keep a safe weather limitation + margin in mind.

Hi, A basic question but I'm new to some of the maintainance jobs on the Europa!
(Didn't build it myself)

When refitting the fuel tank metal fittings should they be fitted dry, thus relying
on the rubber hose and jubilee clips to seal or should I apply some sort
of sealing compound to the fitting body before sliding it in the hole?  If a sealing
compound is needed could someone advise me which is best?

I used a 2 part Sealant Part No: PR1422/A2 from Light Aero Spares. Tel No:
01409 281578. I've a suspicion that number may have changed but there should
be a BT massage telling you the new number.

The product is a 2 part liquid that is mixed and applied to surface or pipe.
Not pleasant in colour or consistency but does cure as a good seal. It
contains Butanone?

Zolatone is  indeed the  way to go.  I did mine that way and it looks good.
Though you need to follow it up with the epoxy clear coat that Zolatone
recommends. It will abrade if not clear coated Once that is done it is
tough  as nails and has a real good look to it. You will need  to get the
whole gallon of Zolatone that is what it takes.  Though the quart kit of
epoxy is more than enough. It consists of a quart of base plus a quart of
activator so in reality it is a half a gallon.  Zolatine needs to be
sprayed  using a pressure pot sprayer to do it right.  The nozzle needs to
be enlarged with a number drill so you don't bust up the speckels when they
come out.  The  best procedure is to spray the  inside of your wheel well
first to see how well you are spraying. That way you can adjust your
technique while not making a mess of  anything visible.
The Zolatone website has lots of  good information.

Not quite sure where to start.

What is choice out there on interiors.

Paint and a little fabric, or mostly fabric? If mostly fabric what still needs
to be painted, and with what type paint?

How is surface prepared for accepting adhesive?

What is choice for seats?

Where to purchase interior and seats in US would be greatly appreciated.

I would like to know what others have done with regard to walls and doors for the
interior. I been told by a local Long EZ builder that the proper way to go
is with Zolitone. I can only find it being sold by the gallon for $55.00. I don't
need a whole gallon. Has anyone used the Rustoleum product called Stone Creations
found at your local hardware store? I wonder if it would hold up in the

I used the Stone Creations product and a light top coat spray of clear. It has
held up quite well with 3 years of use. The pilot foot well is scuffed and the
throttle quadrant box where my hand rests is getting dirty, but it is easy to
clean or spray over as necessary. If you use use a white primer first, you will
need much less of the speckle paint. Next time, I would put on a much heavier
topcoat of clear acrylic as Tony K suggested.

Changed family circumstances and new commitments and interests compel me,  
somewhat reluctantly, to offer my Classic monowheel Europa for sale.

It is very well built (not just I who modestly states so!), very well  
equipped; horizon, capacitance fuel gauge, OAT, Bendix-King GPS (Skymap II),  etc.

Long wheelbase mod.  Despite having Rotax 912 UL, climb is over  700 fpm at
MAUW and usually about 1000 fpm with one POB and half  fuel. Ground adjustable

3-blade Warp Drive prop.  Basic weight 789 lb.  Dynofoam energy absorbing seats.



Very few snags needed correction at final inspection or during test flying  
and none at its first Annual.  Now 30 hours TT.  Always hangared  (Kemble). I'm

looking for offers around GBP33,000.

Buyer would have option to purchase factory trailer.

Why spend GBP50,000 and do 2,500 hours work when you can buy the finished  
product, tried and tested, for two thirds of the price???

I got a response from Shell telling me it is not available in the US.  Rotax
has just approved Pennzoil Motorcycle oil 20W50.  This is a semi synthetic
with a gear box oil.  I have just purchased a case and I will try it next
oil change.

You have to spray Zolatone to get the desired texture.  Brushing just smears
the speckles into the background.  The only constraint on the spray gun is
that it must operate with pressure feed and internal mix.   We used an
inexpensive gun from Sears that was convertible (pressure/siphon,
internal/external), and it worked fine.  This is very forgiving paint: even
a raw amateur (like myself) can get good results.  We have no clear coat
over the Zolatone, and it still looks like new after about 4 years, but we
have fabric or carpet in the areas of heaviest wear.

Gee, I don't know, Tim,
        Although being current in instruments is of course ideal, achieving
that currency can be tough. Actually those four practice sessions Commercial
and ATP do are really two practice and two are licence tests. That's usually
more than doctors and lawyers practice I understand, but they say each case
is a test - the fact is when they fail a test someone else pays.
        The rule is: Doctors bury their mistakes, lawyers hang theirs but
pilots taste their fate before their passengers.
        A twin a night - most have two engines so the second takes you to
the scene of the prang. If it happens at the worst moment then the forced
landing will be in mature trees - night has nothing to do with it! I always
carry a fifty-foot to climb down afterward.

Rustoleum also now has a spray-can Textured Paint in several darker
colors.  Its particulates are finer than the paints discussed here so
far, for a different effect.  Also, they're not multi-colored, should
one find to be odd-looking in a vehicle interior.

Try the Tapis Corporation out of Armonk, New York. Online at
www.tapiscorp.com and you can see the different colors and then contact them for some
swatches/samples of your choices.

We are looking at their "Ultrasuede" to make our seats. My wife will sew up
the Ultrasuede to fit around our Confor foam cushions.
