The State Budget: From Pain to Possibilities
      
Dane Smith, president of the think tank Growth & Justice, will make a
presentation on Minnesota's fiscal challenges at the Stone Arch Discussion
Group.

The 2009 budget shortfall is estimated of over $1 billion ($2 billion, if
inflation is included).  Smith worked at both the St. Paul Pioneer Press and
the Minneapolis Star Tribune, where he built a reputation for in-depth
reporting on issues in government and politics.
