Random locked home and applications

Hi all,

10.4.3 server, 10.4.3 clients

Something odd has begun to happen.

A user logs into a managed client, gets the proper workgroup but both their
documents folder and applications folder have the red circle/minus sign
telling them that they don't have access to their documents folder or
applications folder.

This happens to any user who logs into that client. Users can log into
another client and have full access to their documents and applications.

We began to see this behavior in the past couple of weeks and it has become
more widespread as we updated the clients to 10.4.3 from 10.4.2. The server
has been at 10.4.3 for a while prior to this.

We are going to use mobile/portable home directories and need to be at
10.4.3 to do that - but we haven't turned that on yet. (At another school
going to mobile/portable homes allowed us to keep Microsoft Office from
copying it's 22 MB of stuff to each users network home and really speeded
things up)

So far we haven't been able to pinpoint it to any particular setting on the
client or any particular network switch they might be plugged into.
Re-starting doesn't seem to help. At the moment it seems a random thing.

We've repaired permissions on the clients.

All the users permissions are correct on the server, we re-set them to make
sure and it didn't change things.

Things had been running fine in this school for the last couple of months.
We haven't made any changes in the WorkGroup Manager or server settings.

Anybody seen this? Have any ideas on where to look?

Thanks,
Leigh
